The American Shorthair is a true breed of working cat. The general appearance should be that of a strongly built, well-balanced, symmetrical cat with conformation indicating power, endurance, and agility.

The British Shorthair is a playful but no-nonsense cat. He tends to be reserved, in fact typically British by nature, but once he becomes a part of the family he is a devoted cat and undemanding companion.

British shorthair traces its ancestry to domestic cats that lived thousands of years ago in parts of Europe, including what is now the British Isles. This medium- to large-sized cat typically has a massive, roundish head; and large, round eyes.
