Shuriken,which are used for self-defense,should be small and easy to carry. When thrown,they should be unnoticed by enemies,so when they approach you,its easier to strike the eyes and throat more accurately. It takes a great deal of practice to reach this perfection level.

Shaken

There are many different types of shaken. There is a three point star,the four point star,the five point star,the six point star,and the eight point star. They come in many different shapes,sizes and styles. One must practice for many years to perfect this throwing technique.

Needle-Type Shuriken

Shaken are sometimes compared to needle type shuriken. These weapons are inconvenient to carry because they have many sharp,protruding edges. It may also be held in the hand,with a few sharp edges sticking out past the finger tips,for attacking without throwing.
