Eglomise Egg History
Chinese egg painting, later to be called Eglomise, seems to have originated around 772 B.C. with a Chinese chieftain giving out edible painted eggs as a way of celebrating spring fertility festivals.This will eventually be done with blown glass as well. This was around the time period of Chinese history known as the "Spring and Autumn Period", and was ruled by the Eastern Chou Dynasty. Although the exact origins are not clearly known, it is certain however that this world cherished craft was born amisdt a time in Chinas history that was plagued by battling tribes and other perils of war.
The creation of an Eglomise piece is a simple but extremely time consuming process. The one thing needed almost more importantly than anything else is patience. Eglomise is done by using blown glass or a hollowed out egg. Then sets of small curved brushes are inserted through a very small hole and slowly painted. This process takes usually a few days to complete.
